The design of the MLC Junior School Year 3-6 building completed the creation of a new junior school precinct. Strategic retention and refurbishment of part of the existing junior school provided a 'recycling' strategy that was carried through to the design philosophy of the new parts of the building. A naturally ventilated linking breakout space between the old and new provides opportunities for impromptu learning. Many energy, material, and water-saving strategies have been integrated into this flexible learning environment, which has come to be known by the students as 'the big cubby house'
